Automating Identity Management can lead to costly process revision or delayed return on project investment. Business Process analysis can ameliorate this concern by accounting for the human interaction & decision nuisances that automation can not address.

Take as a simple example the assignment of new hire to an email server.  The rules for assignment might be a combination of office location and business unit but may have exceptions for high ranking executives or auditing personnel.  In the manual process, the operator has no difficulty meeting these needs; however once the human element has been removed these problems must be addressed systematically which dramatically increases the complexity, cost and long term feasibility of the solution.
